Job Summary
Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wax floor surfaces while cleaning restroom areas, windows, and walls. Empty trash, manage recycling, and sweep sidewalks, shoveling snow or applying de-icing compounds as needed. Replace light bulbs, set pest traps, and perform minor HVAC and appliance maintenance. Open and secure buildings daily, adjust heating and cooling, and arrange furniture for events. Prepare requisition forms and time sheets, raising and lowering flags at shift start and end. Substitute as a bus driver with a valid CDL if hired after 9/1/18. Perform related duties under limited supervision while solving simple problems independently.
Required Qualifications
- Some experience in custodial work
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to perform medium physical work
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
- Must be physically able to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, leaf blowers, etc.
- Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Requires the ability to read simple forms
- Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and maintenance reports using prescribed format
- Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
- Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
- Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress
- General Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in janitorial work
- Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materials
- Custodial position with an effective date of hire 9/1/18 and beyond requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement
- Custodial position with an effective date of hire 9/1/18 and beyond requires eligibility to obtain a CDL driver's license with P/S endorsements at the next training opportunity
