Job Summary
Custodian - Class 18 - Nights position within the Town of Lexington. Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and functional school/building environment during the 12-month term. Performs daily custodial duties including cleaning classrooms, corridors, restrooms, gymnasiums, and other facilities; operates floor machines, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, and related equipment; handles snow removal and building-prep tasks; assists with event setup/teardown; reports building deficiencies to supervisors; adheres to SEIU Local 888 contract provisions and dress/appearance expectations; and maintains inventory of supplies. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, valid driver’s license, ability to pass background and medical screenings, and basic computer skills for requests and communications. Shift is Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM–11:00 PM; benefits include vacation, PTO, health/dental/life/vision, FSA, retirement, and a $600 snow stipend plus $400 clothing allowance; salary range provided with annual starting and differential payments.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed in the job description
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal record check (CORI), Sexual Offender Registry (SORI), SAFIS finger printing and a pre-placement medical exam with drug screening
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in modern cleaning methods including basic methods for cleaning carpets, floors, restrooms, walls, furniture and fixtures
- Working knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment and safety practices used in custodial work
- Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment
- Possess basic computer skills, including ability to perform simple word processing and send/receive email and ability to access internet programs, or willingness and ability to be trained on such items
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to perform basic math, understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions
