Job Summary
The Custodian 1, Head will supervise custodians, perform cleaning, minor maintenance, lawn duties, and assign tasks to provide a clean and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning and directing work, appraising performance, and enforcing district policies. Key duties cover floor care (sweeping, mopping, waxing, burnishing), restroom sanitization, restocking supplies, minor maintenance (changing bulbs and fixtures, painting touch-ups, securing windows), lawn and grounds maintenance, opening/closing facilities, ensuring safety, coordinating schedules, and generating reports. Requires strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills; adherence to district standards and training requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in large scale housekeeping and yard maintenance with one (1) year of related supervisory experience
- Florida School Plant Management Association (FSPMA) professional custodial training program
- Custodial Operations Career Advancement Training program through Hillsborough County Public Schools
- Reads and interprets safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; writes routine reports and correspondence; speaks effectively before groups
