Job Summary
Remove cover from bins, inspect fabric for flaws, and select thread by color. Join cut fabric pieces for upholstering using a sewing machine, aligning seams and trimmings per job notes. Check for puckering or bad seams, fix repairs before starting new pieces, and scan tickets to confirm completion. Place finished covers in assigned buggies and maintain a neat workstation while wearing safety glasses. Operate the machine and scissors throughout the shift, lifting up to 35 lbs. and standing for 7+ hours. Requires basic furniture sewing knowledge, ability to read tickets, and English proficiency. Preferred candidate is a CVCC Furniture Academy student with demonstrated willingness to learn and cooperation.
Required Qualifications
- Need basic knowledge of furniture sewing
- Must be able to read ticket and job notes for directions
- Must be knowledgeable in sewing methods and be able to complete job quality specifications
- Sew piece according to sewing notes
- English required for understanding of ticket, job notes and directions
- Must be able to lift less than 20 lbs.
- Must be able to occasionally lift in excess of 35 lbs.
- Must be able to team lift greater weights
- Must be able to frequently push or pull fabric to/from/on workstation weighing less than 10 lbs.
- Must be able to stand 7+ hours
- Must be able to stand continuously for majority of work schedule
- Must be able to use sewing machine and reach all areas of workstation
- Must be able to use scissors on/off during entire shift to cut welt cords and clip corners
- Must have color determination
- Must be able to observe patterns, fabric textures and dye tones for quality control
- Must have close vision of less than 3 feet, with or without corrective lenses

- Preferred student at CVCC Furniture Academy with exposure to furniture sewing methods but not limited to
- Has demonstrated a willingness to learn and a high level of cooperation
- Excellent Attendance Record
- Good work history – verified by current and prior managers
