Job Summary

Curator of the House of Commons leads a team of specialists to steward the institution's history, material culture, and ceremonial pieces. You will advise the Speaker and parliamentarians on heritage, collections, and ceremonial matters, guide acquisition, care, and display of artefacts, and shape exhibitions and public outreach to bring Canada’s parliamentary history to life for Members of Parliament, Canadians, dignitaries, and visitors. The role emphasizes strategic leadership on preservation, storytelling, and public engagement, with responsibilities spanning conservation, documentation, and capital works related to heritage assets. The position includes a 35-hour workweek, potential travel nationally and internationally, and a commitment to inclusive, professional service excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Post-graduate degree in art, architecture, history, or museology
  • Extensive knowledge of museological principles and artefact conservation practices
  • Considerable experience managing heritage assets including artefacts and ceremonial objects for exhibition and preservation
  • Extensive experience in care, documentation, cyclical maintenance, and preservation of collections
  • Experience managing capital works projects related to conservation and preservation
  • Experience ensuring integrated service delivery across conservation, heritage management, and collections care
  • Leadership experience directing teams and fostering service excellence
