Job Summary
Monitor an assigned school campus to maintain order and safety, including unlocking doors, observing students during breaks, and preventing illegal parking or loitering. Respond to calls regarding classroom disturbances, escort students for disciplinary action, and prepare incident reports. Enforce district rules and policies while utilizing good communication skills to prevent conflicts and intervene as necessary. Operate a two-way radio, administer first aid, and assist in investigations of illegal activities. Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff by communicating information regarding school activities. Perform related duties as assigned, including checking vehicles for parking stickers and searching backpacks, cars, and lockers according to established procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school
- Three years of relevant experience
- Valid California Driver's License
- Good communication and interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
- Knowledge of complex, basic methods of individual and group supervision
- Knowledge of requirements to maintain a school environment in a safe and orderly condition
- Knowledge of attitudes, interests and emotional development of adolescents and teenagers
- Knowledge of District policies regarding student discipline, health, safety and other procedures
- Knowledge of first aid techniques
- Ability to perform a variety of complex, basic duties involving individual and group supervision
- Ability to monitor an assigned campus to maintain order and security
- Ability to assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations
- Ability to learn, interpret, apply, and explain laws, rules and regulations
- Ability to observe situations and accurately determine an effective course action
- Ability to operate a two-way radio
- Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff and others
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and work cooperatively with others
- Ability to meet schedules and time lines and maintain a safe and orderly environment
- Ability to maintain complex, basic records
- Ability to administer first aid
- Ability to complete work accurately and as directed with many interruptions
- Consistent mental alertness
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 50 pounds, occasionally 50+ pounds
- Ability to bend and twist at the waist, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally
- Ability to have dexterity of both hands and fingers while performing duties
- Ability to see to read, write and use the computer
- Ability to hear and speak to exchange information, in person or on the telephone, and make presentations
- Current employment with the school district (for the first 5 days following the posted date)
