Job Summary
Coordinate compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act, Archaeological Resources Protection Act, and NEPA for energy industry projects including pipelines, transmission lines, and renewable facilities. Draft consultation letters for State Historic Preservation Officers, Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, and federal agencies while conducting Phase Ia/Class I desktop reviews. Serve as the cultural resources subject matter expert by advising project managers on tribal engagement, application of historic preservation laws, and authoring Unanticipated Discovery Plans and technical reports. Manage project budgets, prepare proposals, monitor field procedures, and track deliverables against schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Secretary of the Interior-qualified
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in archaeology, history, or other related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cultural resources consulting with a focus in Midwestern and Southwest U.S.
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable with quickly changing project timelines and expectations
- Occasional travel may be required to conduct research at various SHPO offices, if appropriate to your location

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with state-regulated projects (e.g., Public Service Commission, Public Utilities Commission, Department of Natural Resources, etc.)
- Experience involving tribal consultation, outreach, and relationship-building
- Technical specialization in a subfield (e.g. architectural history, human osteology, geomorphology, etc.)
- Candidates living in the upper Midwest U.S.
