Job Summary
Culinary Arts Instructor responsible for teaching adult incarcerated students the culinary techniques and safe food/beverage preparation needed for entry-level employment. Instructs, demonstrates, and assesses skill development in line with the Windham School District curriculum; plans and directs learning activities; maintains attendance records and student progress; participates in district staff development and committees; provides clear oral and written instructions; fosters a positive, compliant classroom environment; uses varied instructional methods to engage students and meet individual needs; administers and interprets placement and curriculum tests as required; ensures adherence to policies and procedures and TEA requirements; maintains materials and equipment, and supports the professional standards for educators in a correctional-education setting.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Five years full-time wage-earning experience in culinary arts, kitchen management, or restaurant management within the past ten years
- ServSafe Food Handler Instructor/Proctor or ServSafe Food Manager certification preferred
- Thirty semester hours from an accredited college, university, or technical school may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis (max 4 years)
- Ability to obtain ServSafe Instructor/Proctor certification within 90 days if not currently certified
- Ability to work remotely with required personal technology
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain accurate records
- Maintain confidentiality
- Follow TEA and contracting agency requirements
- Cooperate with staff to meet instructional goals
- Demonstrate progress toward student performance targets
- Develop and evaluate innovative instructional approaches
- Adhere to Windham School District policies and procedures
- Ethical and professional conduct per 19 TAC Chapter 247
