Job Summary

Guide students through a comprehensive engineering arc, from introductory design thinking to advanced CNC machining and robotics. Implement daily lessons incorporating industry standards while managing tools, equipment, and a positive classroom budget. Teach occupational skills in safety, metal fabrication, welding, and heat treating, ensuring students understand assignments before execution. Coordinate internships with local industry partners and Columbia Gorge Community College to facilitate seamless career transitions. Assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and foster relationships with parents and the community. This role supports the CTE Engineering Pathway at Hood River Valley High School for the 2026/27 school year.

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold (or be eligible for) an Oregon CTE Teaching License through the Oregon Teacher Standards & Practices Commission and the Oregon Department of Education
  • Note: Official college transcripts will be required upon hire, if not already on file at the District Office
  • Note: Related technical college credits can be converted to hours (1 credit = 20 hours of experience)
  • (need to have 2,000 verifiable hours, employment, internships, volunteer hours)
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Valid Driver License
  • ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card
  • Valid Oregon CTE Teaching license with an endorsement to perform this job
  • verifiable industry certification
  • Testing/Background Check Required
  • Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with and ability to teach coding and CAD skills using industry software such as Fusion 360, Arduino IDE, Rhino 3D, and Adobe Illustrator (preferred)
  • A "Builder" Mindset: Ability to adapt and grow a program over time, making creative use of existing shop resources while planning for future expansion
  • Community Minded: Ability to foster relationships with local industry partners and Columbia Gorge Community College
  • High school teaching experience
  • Experience with using a variety of different instructional strategies
  • Experience working with English Language Learners
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills
  • Experience working with youth
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Prior successful experience in a relevant Engineering/Manufacturing field, such as welding, woodworking, and CAD/CAM software
  • Ability to proficiently use the following programs strongly preferred: CAD/CAM software (Fusion 360, Arduino IDE, Rhino 3D, and Adobe Illustrator), Synergy, MS Word & Excel and Google Suite Apps
  • Ability to type accurately and proficiently
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions
  • Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
  • Ability to perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks
  • Ability to maintain records
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel
  • Ability to meet schedule and deadlines
