Job Summary
Conduct moderately complex social casework by supervising defendants placed on misdemeanor and felony community supervision, enforcing court-imposed terms, and performing post-sentence investigations. Visit defendants at home, on the job, or in treatment facilities to assess risks, counsel clients, and prepare individualized supervision plans. Administer urine tests for contraband, distribute collected funds, and make day-to-day decisions regarding sanctions, referrals, and treatment placements. Maintain accurate case records, prepare reports for the court, and provide testimony when requested. Provide transportation to care units as needed and oversee support staff. Work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends, maintaining firearm proficiency if permitted.
Required Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree conferred by an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in the field of criminal justice, criminology, corrections, counseling, human services development, law, law enforcement, police science, pre-law, public administration, rehabilitative studies, social work, psychology, or sociology
- One year of experience of graduate study in one of the above related fields or one year experience in full-time casework, counseling, community or group or such other documented education or experience that indicates that the applicant is well qualified to be a supervision officer
- Valid driver's license
- Liability insurance coverage to at least meet state minimum standards
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language
- Must be able to assess potentially dangerous situations, both in the office and field
- Have working knowledge of the continuum of force
- The ability to subdue/restrain a suspect
- Must be able to lift light materials and equipment
