Job Summary
Control traffic at crossing points for children in pedestrian lanes and supervise students crossing streets at intersections using STOP signs. Escort and protect children while they cross, maintain surveillance of students near streets, and warn them of hazards. Assist lost, injured, or distressed children, and report accidents or unusual traffic incidents to school authorities or police. Supervise children on playgrounds and in the cafeteria as assigned. Participate in required training and interface effectively with parents, staff, and outside business representatives. Perform duties indoors and outdoors while meeting multiple demands from the public and school personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS)
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, etc.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff, and the general public
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Ability to interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, other maintenance staff, and business contacts from outside of the District
- Ability to relate to children and communicate well with staff members, teachers, and parents
- Establishes and maintains interpersonal relations skills as applied to contacts with parents and district staff
- Is self-directed, and works without direct supervision
- Skill in interpersonal relations as applied to contacts with children and motorists
- Knowledge of traffic rules and safety regulations pertaining to school crossing
