Job Summary
Assist all pedestrians in safely crossing main thoroughfares within designated school zones and direct the flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic as appropriate. Provide consistent adult presence at crossings while maintaining emotional control under stress and exposure to extreme temperatures or inclement weather. Establish ongoing working relationships with campus administrators and staff, notifying them of unsafe student practices and reporting unsafe vehicle operations to the Katy ISD Police Department. Complete required training and work two sessions daily from 6:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. depending on school zone times.
Required Qualifications
- Must be dependable and responsible
- Possess the sensitivity and maturity to work effectively with children
- Must be able to be at assigned location from 6:45 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (dependent upon the school zone times) and be available at other times related to early dismissal
- Must be able to successfully complete a crossing guard training course
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Continuous walking and standing
- Exposure to vehicle exhaust
- Works outside and is exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather
Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (Preferred)
