Critical Environments Controls Technician

Job Summary
Perform start-up, checkout, commissioning, and troubleshooting of critical environment airflow control systems and HVAC equipment in research laboratories, healthcare facilities, clean rooms, and pharmaceutical spaces. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and performance data to support system installation, then execute wiring, terminations, device verification, and functional testing using commissioning tools and manufacturer software. Diagnose, test, adjust, and balance system components to achieve required airflow relationships, pressurization, and overall performance while maintaining accurate project documentation including installation records and commissioning reports. Participate in job site meetings, project walkthroughs, and owner training activities. This role requires frequent local travel to jobsites, willingness to work overtime for critical shutdowns, and physical demands including climbing, working in confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 pounds. Pre-hire requirements include a drug test, driving report, insurability evidence, and background check.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or state-recognized GED
- Mechanical, electrical, HVAC or related technical degree preferred
- 1+ years of experience installing and servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment preferred
- Basic understanding of HVAC systems, airflow, temperature controls, and mechanical equipment operation
- Mechanical aptitude with a strong desire to learn specialized critical environment systems and advanced airflow control technologies
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
- Demonstrated aptitude for troubleshooting and problem-solving with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate clearly with customers, contractors, subcontractors, and internal team members
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook)
- Frequent local travel to jobsites in assigned territory
- Willingness to work overtime as needed to support critical environment shutdowns on customer schedule
- Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet
- Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted
