Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive assessments of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit and develop, implement, and manage treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians and intensivists. Perform histories, physical examinations, ongoing patient evaluations, and order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory tests, imaging studies, and diagnostic procedures. Manage ventilator-dependent patients and patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, while performing procedures within scope of practice including arterial lines, central venous access, and other critical care procedures as applicable. Respond to medical emergencies, rapid response calls, and code situations, and participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds to coordinate care plans. Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and prognosis, maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record, and collaborate with consultants, specialists, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to optimize patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current Nurse Practitioner certification (ACNP, AGACNP, FNP, or equivalent as applicable)
  • Eligible for or holding an active Alabama Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license
  • Current Alabama Registered Nurse (RN) license or eligibility to obtain
  • Current DEA registration or eligibility to obtain
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Current ACLS certification required
  • Strong clinical decision-making, communication, and teamwork skills required

Desired Qualifications

  • Critical Care, ICU, Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Acute Care experience preferred
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification strongly preferred
  • New graduates with significant ICU nursing experience may be considered
