Job Summary

Manage complex critical care patients with independent oversight of ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD, CRRT, and PA catheters across multiple support devices. Provide bedside care for adult and geriatric populations while floating to additional UCSF facilities, departments, and campuses including Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion. Handle ED task support, PACU boarding, and TCU units with up to a 3:1 assignment ratio. Complete all pre-employment modules and submit required certifications to expedite onboarding. This auto-offer position requires a clear response within 24 hours and involves 12-hour rotating day/night shifts on a variable schedule. Candidates must possess a California RN license and 48 months of Critical Care Float Pool experience.

Required Qualifications

  • 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months
  • 48 months of Critical Care Float Pool experience
  • Travel experience within the last 5 years
  • Trauma Level 2 experience
  • BSN completion
  • California license (required for submission)
  • COVID vaccination after submission
  • COVID booster after submission
  • No current placement at Program: Vaya Workforce Solutions - UCSF
  • Travel nursing for 1 year or less in the past 5 years
  • Minimum 4 years recent ICU experience
  • ECMO experience within the last 6 month to 1 year
  • Experience caring for ECMO patients as a bedside RN
  • Experience caring for ECMO as primary responsibility without dedicated bedside perfusion support
  • Experience with ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD, CRRT, and PA catheter
  • Ability to independently manage complex critical care patients
  • CVICU/CTICU/CCU experience
  • Charge/Lead reference from within the last 12 months
  • Proof of identification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale)
  • RTO must be submitted at time of offer
  • RTO time must be added to the end of the contract
  • 12-hour rotating day/night shifts
  • Day: 7:00-19:30 / Night: 19:00-7:30
  • One 4-week schedule cycle will be either shift, but may switch to the opposite shift in another schedule cycle depending on need
  • Schedule based on operational need
  • Float pool position, not unit based
  • Must float to other UCSF facilities and other UCSF departments, including any UCSF campus such as Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion
  • Floating to all TCUs and ICUs
  • Acute Care/Tele/TCU units with up to 3:1 assignment
  • ED for boarded patients or task support
  • PACU for boarded patients
  • Clear Yes or No response from the nurse within 24hrs to an offer
  • 7 days maximum time off
  • All time off requests must be submitted at application
  • Scheduling requests must be worked out with the manager directly upon starting the assignment

Desired Qualifications

  • 3 months of Epic experience
  • Variety in critical care experience: med/surg, cardiac, neuro
  • Recent Float Pool, PACU, or Emergency Room experience
  • VA ECMO, VV ECMO, V-PA ECMO, CRRT (NxStage), IABP (Teleflex), Impella, ventricular assist devices, heart failure/cardiogenic shock, pulmonary artery catheters, prostacyclin therapies, cardiothoracic surgery recovery, heart transplant recovery, lung transplant recovery, heart transplant, lung transplant, and bridge to transplant
  • Simultaneous management of multiple support devices (e.g. ECMO + CRRT, ECMO + Impella, ECMO + IABP)
  • Teaching hospital experience
