Job Summary
Float to all UCSF departments, including ICU, ED, PACU, and acute care units, managing adult and geriatric patients across Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion campuses. Provide bedside care for ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD, and CRRT patients, often as the primary responsibility without dedicated perfusion support. Simultaneously manage multiple support devices and assist with tasks for boarded patients in emergency settings. This auto-offer travel assignment requires a BSN, California licensure, and 48 months of critical care float pool experience. Candidates must hold current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications and submit all required documents within 48 hours of signing. The role involves 12-hour rotating day or night shifts on a three-shift-per-week schedule for up to 25 weeks, with up to seven days of time off permitted.
Required Qualifications
- 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months
- 48 months of Critical Care Float Pool experience
- Travel experience within the last 5 years
- Trauma Level 2 experience
- BSN completion
- California license
- COVID vaccination
- COVID booster
- Travel nursing for 1 year or less in the past 5 years
- Minimum 4 years recent ICU experience
- ECMO experience within the last 6 month to 1 year
- Experience caring for ECMO patients as a bedside RN
- Experience caring for ECMO as primary responsibility without dedicated bedside perfusion support
- CVICU/CTICU/CCU experience
- Experience with ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD, CRRT, and PA catheter
- Must have the ability to float to other UCSF facilities and other UCSF departments
- Must be able to float to any UCSF campus
- Must be able to float to Acute Care/Tele/TCU units with up to 3:1 assignment
- Must be able to float to ED for boarded patients or assist with tasks in PACU for boarded patients
- Must have the ability to float to all UCSF sites: Parnassus, Mission Bay, or Mount Zion
- 1 Charge/Lead reference required from within the last 12 months

Desired Qualifications
- 3 months of Epic experience
- VA ECMO, VV ECMO, V-PA ECMO, CRRT (NxStage), IABP (Teleflex), Impella, ventricular assist devices, heart failure/cardiogenic shock, pulmonary artery catheters, prostacyclin therapies, cardiothoracic surgery recovery, heart transplant recovery, lung transplant recovery, heart transplant, lung transplant, and bridge to transplant
- Academic medical center/teaching hospital experience
- Simultaneous management of multiple support devices (e.g. ECMO + CRRT, ECMO + Impella, ECMO + IABP)
- Variety in critical care experience preferred: med/surg, cardiac, neuro
- Recent Float Pool, PACU, or Emergency Room experience
