Job Summary
Manage critical care float pool duties across UCSF facilities, including Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion, with ability to float to all TCU, ICU, ED, and PACU units. Provide bedside care for adult and geriatric patients, managing complex support devices such as ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD, and CRRT. Handle simultaneous care for multiple devices and assist with tasks for boarded patients in emergency or perioperative settings. Work rotating 12-hour day or night shifts in a variable schedule based on operational need, with a maximum of seven days off per cycle.
Required Qualifications
- 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months
- 48 months of Critical Care Float Pool experience
- Travel experience within the last 5 years
- Trauma Level 2 experience
- BSN completion
- California license
- COVID vaccination
- COVID booster
- Travel nursing for 1 year or less in the past 5 years
- Minimum 4 years recent ICU experience
- ECMO experience within the last 6 month to 1 year
- Experience caring for ECMO patients as a bedside RN
- Experience caring for ECMO as primary responsibility without dedicated bedside perfusion support
- CVICU/CTICU/CCU experience
- Experience with ECMO, IABP, Impella, LVAD, CRRT, and PA catheter
- Must have the ability to float to other UCSF facilities and other UCSF departments
- Must be able to float to any UCSF campus
- Must be able to float to Acute Care/Tele/TCU units with up to 3:1 assignment
- Must be able to float to ED for boarded patients or assist with tasks in PACU for boarded patients
- Must have the ability to float to all UCSF sites: Parnassus, Mission Bay, or Mount Zion
- 1 Charge/Lead reference required from within the last 12 months
- Proof of identification required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Desired Qualifications
- 3 months of Epic experience
- VA ECMO, VV ECMO, V-PA ECMO, CRRT (NxStage), IABP (Teleflex), Impella, ventricular assist devices, heart failure/cardiogenic shock, pulmonary artery catheters, prostacyclin therapies, cardiothoracic surgery recovery, heart transplant recovery, lung transplant recovery, heart transplant, lung transplant, and bridge to transplant
- Academic medical center/teaching hospital experience
- Simultaneous management of multiple support devices (e.g. ECMO + CRRT, ECMO + Impella, ECMO + IABP)
- Variety in critical care experience preferred: med/surg, cardiac, neuro
- Recent Float Pool, PACU, or Emergency Room experience
