Job Summary
Crisis Support Worker provides 24/7 crisis support via telephone, social media, and walk-in services for Eskasoni Mental Health Services. Responsibilities include delivering individual supportive counselling, identifying and resolving client issues, coordinating referrals to the Intake Coordinator or appropriate agencies, and participating in programs such as Tea and Toast, Needle Exchange, Food Pantry, and Maternal Child Health. Duties include maintaining records, attending staff meetings/trainings, supporting quality improvement and client safety, and performing related tasks as directed by Crisis Team Leads, Directors, Band Manager, and Chief and Council. Must comply with privacy policies and organizational codes of conduct, and be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays; a clear Police Vulnerable Sector and Sexual Abuse Registry record is required. Proficiency in Mi’kmaq is an asset and training for crisis intervention will be provided.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience of Indigenous Health
- Understanding of issues affecting Indigenous people
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with diverse individuals and representatives
- Understanding and knowledge of basic crisis and suicide intervention theories and techniques
- ASIST, Mental Health First Aid First Nations, Safe-Talk certificates or relevant training considered an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word/Google Sheets
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to speak and/or understand Mi’kmaq is an asset
