Job Summary
Validate clients' experiences and provide guidance to encourage participation in their recovery while promoting hope and empowerment. Share personal insights regarding involuntary treatment to inspire recovery-oriented communication and assist clients in accessing transportation for medical appointments. Offer coaching on socialization and leisure planning, then coordinate with social services and medical staff for discharge planning and less restrictive alternative placements. Help individuals combat stigma, locate self-help groups, and support grievance procedures. Provide ongoing assessments for challenges like suicidality or substance abuse needs, and assist clients in securing housing subsidies and legal services. Maintain effective communication with physicians and families regarding treatment evaluations.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years of experience working with behavioral health/substance use populations
- Experience working in crisis or inpatient settings
- Meeting agency driving requirements
- Meeting the minimum age requirement of 21 years old
- Successfully completing a motor vehicle history check
- Possessing and maintaining a current, valid driver's license in the state of Washington
- Having reliable, insured transportation
- Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration
- Completion of the Washington State Mental Health Division's Peer Counselor Training
- Certification as a Peer Counselor within six months of employment
