Job Summary
Lead small field crews and conduct archaeological fieldwork, monitoring, and research for construction and pre-construction projects. Execute Phase I surveys to locate and identify sites, collect data and samples, and analyze artifacts. Manage daily logistics by scheduling fieldwork, instructing crews on equipment and methods, and maintaining project documents in standardized formats. Provide leadership through continuous performance management, including setting goals, feedback, and coaching. Perform site mapping, take daily progress notes, and assist with archaeological reporting. Requires 3+ years of archaeology experience, a Bachelor's degree, and a hybrid work schedule with 75% field time.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years' experience in archaeology role
- Bachelor's degree in Anthropology or related field
- Completion of an accredited archaeological field school
- Experience in CRM-based Phase I/II/III archaeological survey and/or excavation
- Preference is for individuals willing to work from or relocate to JMT office locations in Houston or Round Rock, Texas
- Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. as needed
- Work is performed in the field 75% of the time
- Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions
- Perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures)
Desired Qualifications
- 1+ years' experience leading archaeological field work to locate and identify sites
- Experience with GPS/Trimble navigation and data collection
- Knowledge of historic/prehistoric material culture and artifact processing
- Ability to navigate using compass and USGS topographic map
- Ability to set up and run a Total Station independently for site recording/mapping
- Archaeological reporting experience
