Credit Officer VP

Job Summary

Assess and approve credit applications based on established policies, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements by analyzing financial statements, credit reports, and borrower documents. Monitor portfolio performance, identify early warning signs of delinquency, and develop workout plans for troubled lending. Provide independent credit decisions on lending applications while managing risks through assessment and supporting the control and governance agenda. Contribute to strategy, drive requirements for change, and advise senior management on functional impacts and cross-functional alignment. Manage resources, budgets, and policies to deliver continuous improvements while balancing short and long-term goals. This role is based in the Tokyo office and requires native-level Japanese proficiency alongside strong analytical skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Current or previous experience in a credit risk management role and exercising credit approval authority or making credit decisions
  • Strong knowledge of the Japanese political and economic environment and its impact on the Japanese financial sector
  • Understanding of investment banking products, including loans, securities financing transactions, and derivatives
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Native-level proficiency in Japanese
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Ability to perform quantitative and statistical analysis to assess and quantify risks
  • Ability to review and negotiate legal documentation, including ISDA, CSA, JSDA, and other related agreements
  • Ability to utilise multiple data and information sources to analyse complex issues, exercise sound judgement, and present practical solutions while balancing risk management requirements with the firm's overall business objectives
  • Ability to analyse and interpret financial statements
  • Legal Right to Work in the UK (or equivalent jurisdiction based on visa sponsorship context)
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage urgent transactions within tight deadlines
