Job Summary
Collect self-pay balances on open accounts by reviewing and verifying the accuracy of online accounts promissory notes and guarantor documents before billing. Generate computer letters for patient balances including co-pays and deductibles, perform accounts analysis for disallowances, and complete necessary adjustments prior to billing. Follow up on unpaid accounts, incorrect addresses, and returned mail while maintaining accounts receivable at or below goal. Respond to all telephone and billing email inquiries in a timely and courteous manner. Prepare reports for supervisor review and participate in internal and external audits as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of prior medical and/or hospital Medicare/Medi-Cal claims billing experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Positive customer service skills
- Adequate verbal and written skills to explain statements to guarantors
- Adequate math skills to effectively work debits and credits
- Good knowledge of Medicare and third-party rules & regulations
- Knowledge and familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 coding and terminology
