Credit Balance Specialist-PB

Responsible for resolution of credit balances and refunds in a healthcare setting. Handles credit balances identified through Epic work queues, internal reports, billing, cash posting, or payer/patient/guarantor requests. Researches refund requests and provides complete and accurate disputes when refunds are not warranted. Reviews guarantor records to identify accounts across facility locations and transfers patient payments/adjustments when appropriate. Gathers statistics, completes reports, and performs other duties as scheduled. Organizes and executes daily tasks to achieve productivity, accountability, and efficiency. Participates in educational programs to meet mandatory requirements and identified needs. Attends department meetings and webcasts as necessary. Monitors accounts to facilitate timely follow-up and payment to maximize cash receipts. Provides excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and employees. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and works with supervisors to develop and exceed annual goals. Maintains confidentiality per policy when handling demographic/clinical/financial information. Knowledge areas include medical terminology, third party payors, collection procedures, ICS-9 and CPT coding, and Fair Debt Collection Act. Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, plus the ability to navigate hospital business office operations and maintain professional relationships in high-stress environments.
