Job Summary
Operate refuse crane to maintain proper refuse flow to operating boilers and to control pit management. Responsibilities include monitoring, lubricating, inspecting, and cleaning the crane; ensuring smooth crane operation to minimize cable wear and prevent arches; mixing refuse for proper combustion; closing bays timely and managing the tipping floor trench; logging inspection data; performing lubrication; maintaining a clean crane deck and control room; training staff; following safety procedures and LOTO rules; reading and applying operating manuals; working overtime and rotating shifts; and occasionally operating other equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent
- Mechanical skills sufficient to perform routine tasks (replacement of becket pins, cable cuts and changes, equipment inspections and preventative maintenance)
- Ability to train others to operate the crane
- Reads, understands, and applies safety and operating procedures (lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions)
- Ability to work overtime and rotating shifts
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and teamwork
- Ability to operate related equipment (industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer loaders)
- Attention to safety and environmental hazards and reporting them to supervision
