Job Summary
Operate various cranes including All Terrain, Rough Terrain, and Hydraulic models on heavy civil, roadway, and bridge construction projects under Lift Director supervision. Perform daily safety and operational inspections, maintain Load Charts, and execute approved lift plans while ensuring compliance with OSHA Subpart CC standards. Communicate via radio and hand signals, inspect rigging, and handle pre/post-start procedures. Assist with general labor, minor repairs, and training junior operators as needed. Work various shifts in a team environment with accountability for equipment safety and operational function.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or general education degree
- 5+ years' experience lifting and placing concrete by bucket, prefabricated bridge beams, precast bridge deck panels, rebar, concrete pipe as well as metal forming components
- NCCCO or NCCER certification
- Must be able to maintain compliance responsibilities set forth in the OSHA standard Subpart CC, Cranes and Derricks in Construction (29 CFR 1926.1400–1442)
- Must be able to follow instructions correctly, be able to communicate and respond accordingly to radio commands and/or with the ASME B30.5 Standard Hand Signals for Mobile Crane Operations regarding lift communications and/or lift instructions
- Must maintain a current Load Chart and Operations Manual within the crane cab at all times and be able to demonstrate Load Chart proficiency on various crane configurations and load chart usage, all in the language of the manufacturer's instruction manual
- Must be able to participate and perform lifting load planning; and execute the approved Lift Plan accordingly
- Must be able to inspect and be responsible for correct selection of rated rigging (slings, cables, straps, blocks, hooks, shackles, etc.) and the crane appurtenances prior to lifting operations with assurances that all lifts are within load limits of equipment and correctly rigged
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in handling, pre-start inspections, post-start inspections, maneuvering skills, shut down and securing procedures
- Must be able to work various shifts in a team environment
- Must possess the ability to operate various mobile cranes safely with a minimum of supervision while being able to handle multiple tasks
- Must possess a thorough understanding of crane operation characteristics, controls, emergency skills, response to fire, power line contact, tipping, malfunction characteristics and performance questions about the specific crane types in use
- Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely
- Must be willing to assist in other duties as required while not operating a crane
- Knowledge to inspect cranes and recommend appropriate actions to maintain the crane in good working order
- Knowledge and understanding of OSHA requirements in connection with crane operation including daily inspection log, focus on crane operation, and being able to safely hoist, move and place materials and objects using appropriate attachments
- Ability to communicate effectively

- Position may be subject to pre-employment screening, which may include background check and drug testing
