Job Summary

Conservatorship Workers in CPS manage cases when children are removed from homes. Responsibilities include receiving cases after removal, assessing each child’s needs, ensuring referrals for testing/evaluations/records, planning for permanency with families and kinship providers, conducting home studies, assessing safety and risk with parents, coordinating with a Placement Team, attending and preparing for court hearings, keeping stakeholders informed, and supporting reunification and eventual permanency. The role requires collaboration with families, law enforcement, legal resources, and community partners; maintaining case records; traveling to visits and court; and being on call with potential after-hours duties. Knowledge/KSAs include child development, family dynamics, communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills. The position may involve substantial travel (up to 75%), and staff participate in the agency’s certification program and ongoing professional development; the job is full-time with a non-exempt status.

Required Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree OR accredited Associate's degree plus two years of relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two years of relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one year of relevant work experience; for higher level, similar criteria with progression to CTS Conservatorship Worker II/III/IV
  • Current Texas driver's license appropriate for vehicle and passenger/cargo load; reliable vehicle and driving record for past five years; ability to travel for visits and court-related duties
  • Ability to travel and attend child and family visits as well as other work-related appointments; on-call requirements and irregular hours
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development, family dynamics; effective verbal and written communication; problem solving; and establishing working relationships
