Job Summary
CPI Investigation Worker Trainee conducts child protective investigations including interviewing, gathering information, assessing safety and risk to children, determining whether abuse or neglect occurred, and taking actions to protect children. Responsibilities include testifying in court to seek emergency protective services, placing children in substitute care when needed, collaborating with law enforcement, healthcare, and community resources, documenting findings, managing workloads under deadlines, and participating in on-call rotations. The role operates in a mobile unit, involves extensive travel (up to ~60% travel), and requires independent work with occasional overnight travel, after-hours availability, and adherence to DFPS practices and core competencies.
Required Qualifications
- Child Protective Investigations Specialist I: An accredited Bachelor's degree OR accredited Associate's degree plus two (2) years of relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one (1) year of relevant work experience.
- Child Protective Investigations Specialist II: An accredited Bachelor's degree OR accredited Associate's degree plus two (2) years of relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two (2) years relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one (1) year of relevant work experience.
- Child Investigations Specialist III/IV: similar degree/experience pathways as above.
- Travel requirements: frequent travel within and outside assigned region; some overnight travel; on-call rotation; mobile work environment.
