Job Summary
Record and preserve all courtroom proceedings through verbatim recording methods, then transcribe records to provide accurate transcripts within a reasonable timeframe. Maintain electronic backup storage of proceedings and keep all exhibits in possession until otherwise requested by the court. Perform legal office support work including preparing correspondence, editing written materials, generating reports, and operating office equipment. All work is reviewed for accuracy and performed in accordance with procedures established by the district judges and clerk of court. This role requires a Certified Court Reporter (CCR) and involves background screenings, with a salary of $72,515.50 annually. The 16th Judicial Circuit of Missouri is a team-oriented environment serving Jackson County citizens.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a Certified Court Reporter (CCR) as provided by Rule 14 of the Missouri State Supreme Court Rules
- Knowledge of personal computers and standard software applications related to court reporting work
- Knowledge of filing and electronic record keeping systems
- Knowledge of legal processes and terminology
- Knowledge of English grammar/punctuation/spelling
- Skill in reading/preparing legal documents
- Advanced skill in communicating effectively using the English language, both orally and in writing
- Skill in application of state and federal guidelines, rules, and statutes to perform essential functions of position
- Advanced skill in discretion and maintaining confidential information
- Advanced skill in handling stress successfully
- Ability to learn and apply policies, procedures, documents and terminology affecting assigned functions
- Advanced ability to work independently, follow instructions, and multi‐task
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
