Court of Protection Solicitor

Job Summary

Manage a caseload of welfare matters within the Court of Protection team, working closely with vulnerable clients and their families. Prepare witness statements and instructions to experts, brief counsel, and attend court hearings. Handle client meetings and case documentation while providing advice on matters arising from the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Court of Protection procedures. Support marketing efforts to raise the firm's profile and expand the client base. This role offers a comprehensive induction with a designated supervisor, opportunities for continuous professional development, and flexible working options including office and home working.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor or Legal Executive (CILEX), with experience at a newly qualified level or above
  • Solid understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Court of Protection procedures, and legal aid contract requirements
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently, with strong time management and organizational skills
  • Experience working with vulnerable clients and a compassionate approach to client care
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Law Society Mental Capacity (Welfare) Accreditation
  • Experience of meeting the Legal Aid Agency's supervisor status in mental health law
  • Experience in community care work or judicial review
  • Advocacy experience
  • A valid driving licence
