Job Summary

Manage case file management, data entry, and court recording duties, including preparing transcripts, marking exhibits, and maintaining logs of witness orders and hearing times. Review pleadings for accuracy and compliance, issue summonses, and receive fines and fees for deposit. Schedule hearings, greet visitors, answer inquiries, and coordinate with the Purchasing Department for supplies. Assist the court administrator in the annual juror selection process by preparing questionnaires and statements. Perform occasional overnight travel for meetings and after-hours work during court sessions. Maintain confidentiality and comply with tribal, federal, and state laws.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two (2) or more years as a Legal Assistant, Court Clerk, or Judicial Clerk
  • Intermediate to advanced user of MS Office Software, case management database systems, computers, and office equipment
  • Understanding of the Tribal Court system and Tribal laws
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal terms
  • Ability to pass a criminal background and central registry check
  • No convictions for any assaultive crimes, any crimes of dishonesty/fraud or moral turpitude
  • No felony convictions (must be explained to the satisfaction of the Chief Judge and Court Administrator)
  • Not on or be on any central registry (child abuse/neglect), or sex offender registry
  • Ability for occasional overnight travel for meetings and continuing education
  • Ability for occasional evening or after-hours during Court sessions
