Job Summary
County Engineer oversees division staff and directs planning, design, construction, and maintenance of stormwater, sewer, and public works infrastructure. Responsibilities include reviewing plans and specifications for code compliance, developing designs and proposals, managing budgets and capital improvement programs, coordinating right-of-way acquisitions, hiring and evaluating staff, and ensuring regulatory adherence at local, state, and federal levels. Requires extensive civil engineering knowledge, ability to interpret complex plans, proven leadership in supervising professional staff, and strong written and oral communication for public meetings and interagency coordination.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field
- Seven years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience, with at least five years in a supervisory capacity
- State of Georgia Certified Professional Engineer (PE) or PE license in reciprocity state
- Valid Class I Driver's License and satisfactory MVR
- Experience in stormwater, sewer utilities, public works, or municipal development review preferred
