Job Summary
Country Director, Iraq based in Erbil to lead Save the Children’s country programme with frequent travel to Baghdad. Responsible for strategic direction, programme delivery, governance, financial management, fundraising and donor engagement, risk and security management, HR and policy implementation, and external representation with government authorities, donors, UN agencies, and NGOs. Leads a high-performing Senior Management Team, ensures alignment with global priorities and country strategy, delivers programme results across sectors such as education, child protection, climate resilience, and equitable education access, and ensures effective monitoring, evaluation, and learning. Requires substantial leadership experience, ability to manage large-scale funding, and fluency in English (Arabic desirable).
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree level qualification or equivalent length of experience in the sector
- Substantial experience of building, leading and developing a diverse team of senior staff
- Experience working with large, complex donors to secure and/or manage new large-scale and/or competitive funding
- Experience of managing a humanitarian crisis situation requiring quick changes to priorities and rapid action to respond
- Excellent understanding and experience of risk, programme, financial and operational management processes
- Experience of successfully leading change in an organisation
- Experience of building effective personal networks at a senior level
- Experience of managing security in a complex and rapidly changing environment
- Experience of solving complex issues
- Good understanding of key trends in international and humanitarian development
- Fluency in English
