Job Summary
Process POS transactions, assure proper service to every customer, and stock, assemble, and rotate merchandise from inbound freight. Maintain assigned store areas to merchandising standards and complete daily assignments at the direction of store management. Represent Alaska Industrial Hardware by welcoming customers and keeping the location tidy and well-stocked. This full-time retail role requires standing, walking, and lifting 50# repeatedly in an indoor store setting with warehouse equipment exposure. You must possess basic math skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to work unsupervised. Access to military installations and reliable transportation are required for this position at our Fairbanks location.
Required Qualifications
- Must be physically able to be on your feet, standing, walking, and working on hard concrete and tile floors for full shifts
- Must be able to lift and carry 50# repeatedly, safely, and without unusual strain
- Frequent bending, reaching overhead, kneeling, and squatting
- Frequent pulling and stocking inventory items onto carts, or with material handling equipment
- Ability to properly use general warehouse material handling equipment
- Follow all safety rules and procedure and properly using all safety gear
- Possess the proper situational awareness to work safely in a warehouse environment where you and others are using and operating forklifts, pallet jacks, packaging machines, ladders, box cutter and other potentially dangerous equipment and tools
- Maintain a safe work environment, both inside and outside the store and comply with OSHA and MSDS standards
- Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity
- Must be able to obtain access to military installations
- As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Must have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base
- Must be self-motivated, being able to complete tasks during unsupervised periods
- Ability to read, write and perform basic math
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Basic computer skills
- Basic knowledge of product sold
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail or customer service is preferred but not required
- Relevant experience in a fast-paced environment will be considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers and provide excellent service
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment
- Punctuality and reliability with a strong work ethic
- Background in the retail, construction or trade industry
- Basic understanding of sales principles and customer service practices
- Proven work experience as a Retail Sales Associate, Sales Representative or similar role
