Job Summary
Counselor role providing clinical oversight and supportive counseling for patients in addiction treatment. Responsibilities include completing patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and related documentation; orienting patients to program objectives and phase system requirements; assessing and placing patients according to treatment phases; updating charts per policies; crisis counseling and assistance with coping strategies; addressing noncompliance and facilitating referrals to community resources; conducting intake and facilitating group sessions; collecting urine/drug screenings; ensuring documentation meets federal/state standards; participating in case conferences, supervision, and training; pursuing licensure/credentials and continuing education; and contributing to a collaborative, patient-centered treatment team. Qualifications span from GED/HS diploma to Master’s degree with licensure options in Ohio (CDCA, LMFT, LPC, LISW, LICDC, IMFT, LPCC, etc.), with varying levels (Counselor I–III) and ongoing professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- GED/High School diploma or higher
- CDCA or higher certification in Ohio
- Counselor II requires Associate degree or higher
- Counselor III requires Master’s degree or higher
- Licensed/independently licensed professionals (LMFT, LPC, LISW, LICDC, IMFT, LPCC) as applicable in OH
- Independent licensure/credentialing options in OH
- Complete intakes, maintain documentation per federal/state standards
- Group counseling and crisis counseling responsibilities
- Urine drug screening and chain of custody
Additional Requirements
- OH CDCA or higher counseling license required
- Licensure in Ohio for relevant counselor level(s)
- Must be able to meet licensure/certification requirements
