Job Summary
Administer assessments, establish individualized treatment goals, and formulate diagnostic summaries for patients with chemical dependencies. Provide supportive individual counseling, conduct group therapy, and review clients at case conferences while maintaining family contacts and referrals. Document patient progress for Utilization Review, complete discharge summaries, and perform evaluations based on ASAM criteria. Address problematic behaviors, facilitate discharge processes, and deliver lectures or workshops as required. Maintain case management responsibilities, keep referral sources updated, and participate in ongoing educational training to improve treatment delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited college with a major in chemical dependency, psychology, social work, counseling, nursing, or other related field that includes a practicum in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting
- Bachelor's degree in a related field with one year of clinical experience (minimum of 1820 hours) in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting
- Associate's degree in a related field with two years of clinical experience (minimum of 1820 hours) in a health or human services agency
- Full certification in this state as an Addictions Counselor
- Licensed in this state if a Registered Nurse (RN)
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office
- Able to function calmly in a crisis situation
- Knowledge of 12-step recovery and an understanding of chemical dependency
- Able to provide individual counseling as well as group therapy
- Able to operate as a role model in speech and behaviors consistent with recovery principles
- Confident, articulate, and able to speak effectively in front of groups and individuals to provide education/training
- Demonstrated proficiency at educating, communicating, and empathizing with patients, answering questions and concerns in a manner that is respectful
- Able to work in a supportive, caring, and non-judgmental manner with staff and patients in order to gain confidence and cooperation
- Must be able to lift 10lbs maximum
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field preferred; will accept Bachelor's or Associate's degree with corresponding experience
- One to two years of clinical experience in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting
