Job Summary
Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at assigned campus. Counsel students to fully develop each student's academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. Plan and conduct structured guidance lessons, collaborate with teachers, guide individual students and groups to plan and monitor educational and career development including reviewing personal graduation plans and post-secondary opportunities. Interpret standardized test results and assessment data to guide goal setting; plan, implement, evaluate, and promote a balanced guidance program including curriculum, responsive services, individual planning, and system support components. Advocate for a diverse, respectful school environment; maintain records and ensure compliance with policies and professional standards. Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff, and other professionals; supervise counseling aides and clerical staff. The role requires adherence to legal/ethical standards and may involve variable hours. FMLA notice is referenced; LISD right to not fill positions is noted.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas school counselor certificate
- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
- Two years teaching experience
