Job Summary
The Financial Counselor works closely with various departments to contact insurance payers, verify benefits, and obtain necessary authorizations, ensuring proper documentation in the registration system. Responsibilities include gathering patient demographic and financial data, explaining forms, maintaining logs for statistical reporting, screening for assistance programs, and adhering to self-pay policies. This position requires a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience, plus proficiency in computer skills. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work independently are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years’ experience in a financial, business office, or customer service environment
- One year hospital business office experience
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated computer skills (including Microsoft Word and Excel)
- Working knowledge of ICD9 coding and medical terminology
- Ability to work effectively with all payor and hospital personnel
