Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive substance use screenings, develop individualized care plans, and provide evidence-based services such as CBT, MI, and DBT to assigned clients. Support recovery through relapse prevention, coping skills training, and discharge planning while coordinating with medical providers and community resources. Monitor client progress, maintain accurate treatment records, and perform toxicology testing and vital signs as needed. Respond to behavioral crises, medical emergencies, and suicidal ideation within scope of practice, including administration of anti-overdose medications. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences, and quality assurance initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalency
  • Registered and/or enrolled in a state-recognized substance use counselor certification program
  • Six months of substance abuse experience
  • Completion of required 80 hours of continuing education in accordance with AB 2473 when applicable
  • Registration in good standing
  • Valid California driver's license
  • Liability insurance if driving personal or company vehicle on BHS business
  • Adequate vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
  • Ability to sit at a desk, use a keyboard, write and physically perform other job duties
  • Ability to move about the facility to observe clients and staff
  • Completion of annual TB test
  • Good standing for TB test
  • Counseling certification
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a counseling or mental health setting
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Understanding of cultural sensitivities
  • Familiarity with behavioral health services and therapeutic practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of ethical and legal standards in counseling practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records and other relevant software applications
