Job Summary
Counselor Advocate role in a 100% onsite overnight shelter setting. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate client documentation, crisis intervention, safety planning, trauma-informed care, empowerment and harm reduction approaches, and providing direct services to adult and child DV survivors. Duties span crisis support via the 24-hour hotline, client entry/exit from shelter, transportation to court/appointments, facilitating adult and child support groups, occasional child-care, ensuring shelter guidelines, providing resources/referrals, coordinating with partners and community services, staff collaboration, attending trainings and meetings, inventory and facility maintenance requests, and supervising volunteers. Requires high school level education; willingness to complete 40-hour DV training; valid CA driver license; multitasking in a fast-paced shelter environment; bilingual Spanish is preferred. The role emphasizes confidentiality, safety, and trauma-informed practices across a combination of field and office duties within the Sojourn program.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent
- Willingness to receive 40-hour Domestic Violence Training
- Valid California Driver's License
- Use of own vehicle; responsible to carry all auto insurance legally required in State of California
- Must engage participants in positive interactions and troubleshoot problems as they surface
