Counsel/Senior Counsel Technology & Growth

Job Summary
Manage intellectual property portfolios, advise on IP development and licensing, and resolve disputes while supporting technology transactions involving AI tools, software, and cloud platforms. Provide legal guidance on commercial contracts, supplier agreements, and customer programs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align legal strategy with evolving business needs. Negotiate contracts, draft memoranda, and refine internal processes to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with reporting requirements. Work independently under the direction of a Deputy General Counsel, maintaining current knowledge of utility industry regulations and legal trends. Hybrid schedule with three days in the office; no travel required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (JD) from an accredited law school
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience practicing law
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience practicing law
- Licensed to practice law in the US and eligible for reciprocity
- Licensed to practice in North Carolina or another state in which the Company operates
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Ability to operate with limited supervision and guidance
- Independent judgment
- Frequent contact with clients and others internal and external to Duke Energy Corporation and its affiliates
Desired Qualifications
- Experience reviewing, negotiating, and advising on commercial contracts, including related to enterprise and administrative services
- Experience analyzing complex matters and reducing them to manageable products and communications
- Experience negotiating IP licenses
- Knowledge of, or experience with, the patent process and/or trademark registration and maintenance
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously
- Ability to work as a part of a team of other lawyers and business stakeholders
- Experience in energy or related industries
- Experience managing and resolving disputes
