Job Summary

Handle all aspects of claims litigation from initial referral to resolution, including bodily injury and property matters. Collaborate with Claims colleagues to resolve files by providing assessments, legal research, and attending examinations for discoveries, mediations, motions, appeals, pre-trials, and trials. Travel as needed for claims litigation files and assess situations to determine the need for experts or stakeholder involvement. Provide general legal advice, training, and guidance to agents, insured clients, and staff, while supporting senior counsel on higher complexity files. Recommend process improvements to reduce financial and legal exposure. Maintain a valid driver's license and own a vehicle for travel requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • minimum of 3 years of insurance defence or plaintiff personal injury experience
  • Law Degree (LLB, JD or comparable)
  • member of the body regulating lawyers in the province of Ontario
  • strong ability to think critically, to present information effectively and collaborate effectively
  • excellent communication abilities (particularly drafting), both technical and plain English and can interact effectively with all levels of the organization, particularly senior management
  • effective negotiation skills combined with a keen attention to detail
  • can read and understand case laws and statuses
  • valid driver's license and insurance and have your own vehicle
  • subject to a Background check as a condition of employment
