Job Summary
Counsel, AI Risk & Compliance provides legal guidance on AI governance, vendor risk, data privacy, confidentiality, and professional responsibility across the firm. Partners with IT, Information Security, Procurement, Marketing/BD, Knowledge Management, and other stakeholders to evaluate, deploy, and govern AI tools and related technologies; advises on data access, cross-border transfers, data rights, and contractual obligations; supports vendor diligence and contract risk management for AI-related tools; develops standards and policies aligning with client commitments and regulatory obligations; monitors evolving AI-related laws/regulations and translates them into practical guidance; contributes to training and communications on appropriate AI use and compliance.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- active bar membership in good standing
- significant legal experience in technology transactions, privacy, cybersecurity, data governance, regulatory compliance, or professional responsibility
- strong legal judgment
- ability to advise on complex, cross-functional initiatives involving emerging technologies and evolving regulatory requirements
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- experience advising on artificial intelligence, machine learning, data use, or technology governance issues in a law firm, regulated industry, or sophisticated in-house legal environment
- familiarity with AI governance frameworks, privacy and cybersecurity concepts, vendor risk review, and contractual allocation of data and intellectual property rights
- technical fluency to work with technology, information security, and operations teams
- experience developing policies, training, templates, and scalable processes for responsible innovation and compliance
