Job Summary

Instruct middle school football athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training while modeling trustworthiness, respect, and citizenship. Manage team discipline, monitor grades and conduct, and serve as a mentor to promote character development. Coordinate practice schedules, provide transportation to tournaments, and maintain equipment inventory and facility safety. Submit injury documentation within 24 hours and attend all staff meetings and competitions. Complete a Federal Background Check and adhere to district policies regarding student eligibility and parental consent.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous coaching experience in assigned sport
  • Has knowledge and background in the assigned sport
  • Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Montezuma Cortez RE-1 Schools' Board of Education
  • Has knowledge of the existing system, state, and league regulations
  • Understands the proper administrative line of command
  • Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program
  • Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletes the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship
  • Gives constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct
  • Provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant
  • Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant
  • Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies
  • Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to athletic office within 24 hours
  • Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians
  • Determines discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contracts parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible
  • Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection
  • Accountable for all equipment
  • Collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned
  • Arranges for issuing and storing of equipment and submits an annual inventory and current records concerning same
  • Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' offices and authorizes who may enter
  • Permits the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times
  • Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility
  • Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment
  • Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty
  • Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use
  • Makes press releases and school announcements
  • Instructs team members to change the rules and teaches team to follow those rules
  • Maintains a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering
  • Attends all staff meetings and carries out scouting assignments
  • Arrives early enough before practice, contests, and meetings to adequately prepare and remains long enough afterwards to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions
  • Always demonstrates professionalism
  • Strives to improve skills by attending clinics and using available resources
  • Attends most of the competitions and/or games, when possible, of other teams in the program
