Job Summary
Corrections Unit Caseworker duties include assigning, scheduling, and overseeing inmate work to meet timelines and quality standards; monitoring and documenting inmate performance, training needs, and behavior; training inmates in sanitation tasks and inspecting living areas for safety and cleanliness; writing reports on inspections, grievances, disciplinary actions, and performance; observing inmate behavior and addressing issues; providing orientation on rules and expectations; assisting in developing treatment plans by researching backgrounds and counseling inmates; ensuring compliance with policies and regulations; participating in disciplinary hearings and recommending corrective actions or program changes; shift work includes mandatory and voluntary overtime, covering all shifts, weekends, and holidays. Preferred qualifications include bilingual English/Spanish skills. A valid driver's license and transcripts are required. The position requires completion of the Nebraska Corrections Training Program after hire.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in criminal justice, behavioral science, human services or related field OR two years of experience working with persons referred through the legal system
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- No felony or domestic abuse related convictions
- Transcripts required prior to appointment
- Applicants accepting a job offer must pass pre-employment exams (medical exam and a drug test)
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Completion of fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program
