Job Summary
Maintain custody and control of inmates by supervising behavior, enforcing discipline, and ensuring the safety of staff, volunteers, and the public. Conduct housing inspections, cell searches for contraband, and perform booking, fingerprinting, and records maintenance procedures. Guide inmate movement throughout the facility, escorting them during meals, recreation, and transport to courts while monitoring for signs of substance abuse or mental health crises. Operate life safety, electronic surveillance, and door control systems, and assist with screening, distributing, and retrieving meal trays and medication. Participate in evacuation procedures and maintain security during emergency situations.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
- Valid Michigan Driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any State
- Completion of Michigan Sheriffs' Coordinating and Training Council Corrections Academy within one year of hire
- LEIN Certification within 6 months of hire
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certification within 1 year of hire
- Local Corrections Officer's Physical Ability Test (LCOPAT)
- Michigan Sheriffs' Coordinating and Training Council Written Examination (EMPCO)
- Mental Health (Psychological) Examination
- Medical Screening
- Pass a drug screen (which includes testing for THC)
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, or related field
