Job Summary
Conduct law enforcement duties outside and provide tactical responses inside while learning defensive tactics and de-escalation techniques. Assist the public and manage the prisoner population by housing inmates and processing new arrestees. Respond to emergency situations and work with the mentally ill population. Complete POST certification training covering Federal and State laws, ethical leadership, verbal communication, physical fitness, and defensive tactics before beginning your career. This full-time role offers Salt Lake County benefits including Public Safety retirement, health insurance, and paid time off.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have lived in the country for at least five years and have legal authorization to work
- Must be at least 19 years old by the academy start date
- Must be a resident of the State of Utah at the time of hire
- Must possess a valid Utah Driver's license at time of hire
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must not have any disqualifying criminal history
- Must have a passing NPOST score at 70% or higher
- Must pass the PT Test
- Vertical Jump = 14.5 inches
- Push-Up = 14
- Isometric Plank = 30 seconds
- 1.5 Mile Run = Under 16 minutes and 11 seconds
- If hired, you will be required to pass a Medical/Physical Evaluation and a Drug screen
