Job Summary
Supervise inmates in accordance with established policies, maintain discipline, conduct frequent counts, and prevent disturbances and escapes during assigned shifts. Maintain 100% accountability of keys, equipment, and supplies, while overseeing inmate conduct, performing counts, and enforcing rules impartially. Conduct searches of inmates and areas, securely store inmate property and monies, and assist with prisoner transports if qualified. Monitor CCTV and security systems, control access to restricted areas, and conduct regular inventories. Prepare reports, maintain logbooks, and issue supplies as required. Work 3pm-11pm or 11pm-7am shifts with a $1.00/hour differential. Current employees follow the County Promotion/Demotion policy.
Required Qualifications
- Applicant must be 21 years of age
- High school diploma
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License
- Willingness to travel as needed
- Ability to maintain a physical and mental state of fitness and readiness to handle physical contacts and involvements with dangerous or potentially dangerous prisoners
- Ability to cope with the physical and mental stresses of position
- Ability to establish and maintain a professional, ethical, and effective working relationship with judicial staff, police, and other agents or employees within the criminal justice system
- Ability and confidence to make independent decisions when circumstances so warrant
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain forms and inventories
- Ability to report to work in all types of weather and conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in corrections, law enforcement, or other criminal justice field
- Additional education in a related field
