Job Summary
This Correctional Officer Captain position at Gulf Correctional Institution in Wewahitchka, FL oversees and supervises Correctional Officers and Sergeants, serves as initial Commander during emergencies, and plans, organizes, and coordinates security activities across shifts. Duties include delegating post and duty assignments, coordinating leave, ensuring security coverage, conducting staff counseling, supervising contraband searches, inspecting facilities for security and sanitation, acting as facility manager during non-administrative hours, conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, administering disciplinary actions, supervising inmate housing and movements, transporting inmates with approved restraints, maintaining head counts, and performing crisis intervention and emergency procedures, including use of force as appropriate. Requires completion of basic recruit training and one year of certified officer experience, with adherence to conduct and performance standards and Veterans’ Preference considerations.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida
- Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months
- Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months
- Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.
