Job Summary
Corporate Security Specialist (Part-time) at Wellmark. Responsible for patrolling premises, monitoring security systems, and responding to incidents to maintain a safe environment. Works with security team and external emergency personnel; requires risk assessment, incident response, de-escalation, and confidentiality. Office-based with potential occasional remote work; two office locations in Des Moines, IA and Sioux Falls, SD. In-person work with flexible hours including evenings, nights, and weekends. Axon certification required or obtainable within 6 months. Minimum 2+ years in security; high school diploma required; preferred security-management or related degree. Des Moines and Sioux Falls offices; travel may be required; no immigration sponsorship.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (bachelor’s degree in security management or related field preferred)
- 2+ years of experience in a security role, preferably within a corporate environment or a related security/protective services role; or equivalent training or experience
- Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment, and emergency response
- Conflict resolution skills, including the ability to de-escalate situations and engage with offenders
- Familiarity with emergency medical protocols (e.g. TCCC/TECC), AED operation, and crisis response strategies
- Ability to think critically, applying logic and sound judgment in high-pressure situations to assess threats and respond appropriately
- Demonstrable knowledge of defensive tactics and security equipment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, especially when handling sensitive security information or incidents
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a security team, supporting internal departments and interfacing with external emergency personnel as needed
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights and weekends
- Axon certification required, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
