Job Summary
Oversee all accounting operations for the American Gas Association, Foundation, and Political Action Committee, including general ledger, monthly and annual close processes, and external audit liaison duties. Develop and execute multi-year strategic plans to modernize financial systems, strengthen internal controls, and drive operational efficiency. Lead the F&A team by mentoring staff, fostering a high-performing culture, and implementing structured development plans. Manage cash operations, banking relationships, and investment coordination while supporting the CFO on enterprise-wide transformation initiatives. Serve as Staff Executive to the Audit Committee and prepare materials for Board and committee meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive, hands-on experience in corporate accounting leadership roles
- Proven experience in a Controller or similar role
- Experience preferably within an association environment
- Demonstrated success in developing and executing multi-year (3–5 year) strategic plans
- Deep expertise in financial systems and ERP environments
- Experience leading organizational change initiatives across diverse stakeholder groups
- Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves leader with a strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels and varying financial backgrounds
- Strong communicator able to translate a heavy volume of financial transactions and information into clear, actionable insights
- Collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and retain high-performing teams
